It could mean that Europe, Africa and Asia, will not see live coverage of the Games. The Montreal Olympic organizing committee is asking eighteen million dollars for TV rights to the Games - double the amount the foreign networks are willing to pay. Roger Rousseau, President of the Organising Committee gave his side of the story at Montreal news conference. A report from Ron Laplante. "Negotiations broke down last week with what the European Broadcasting Union called a final offer of nine point three million for the right to televise the Games outside of North America. KOJO? is demanding almost twice that much - eighteen million. There are no negotiations at this very moment, but Mr.Rousseau emphasises that the door is open and a solution must be found." "They talk budget, they talk value. We believe that there is a value to t hem and to us, so this is why it has been difficult since the beginning to reconcile the two from two different standpoints. One is value, alright, and we've tried logically to explain how we came to the value, and we really believe that this is an important step for the future as far as the television rights are concerned. We have to be (indistinct) of the jungle. I think a value has to be assessed and finally accepted so that each organising committee does not have to face that kind of battle every time." "The final authority in the negotiations is the International Olympic Committee which can intervene at any time. This is why most observers believe there is really no danger of a television black-out in the rest of the World. Ron Laplante, CBC News, Montreal.
