U.S.A.: EGYPTIAN AMBASSADOR TO U.N. QUESTIONED ON HIS REACTIONS TO U.S. HELP FOR ISRAEL
- Title: U.S.A.: EGYPTIAN AMBASSADOR TO U.N. QUESTIONED ON HIS REACTIONS TO U.S. HELP FOR ISRAEL
- Date: 3rd September 1970
- Summary: 1. GV street PAN TO U.N. building 0.16 2. CV Ambassador 1.47 TRANSCRIPT: REPORTER: How do you feel Ambassador, about the statement of Secretary of Defence Laird here about the continuing supply of planes and weapons to the Israelis? Do you have any reaction to this? AMBASSADOR: I think I would prefer to leave the reaction to people engaged in bilateral or even national (indistinct) in Egypt. If, however, you insist on my giving you my opinion as an Egyptian, I cannot tell you that I'm overjoyed. REPORTER: As one of the participants and Ambassadors, can you see anything coming out of the Big Four talk...they met this morning for 2 hours...do you get any reports or do you see any help coming from the Big Four in their discussions? AMBASSADOR: Well I think it is perhaps useful to know who are the Big Four. These of course are the permanent representatives of the Security Council and trusted with an obligation and given privileges. It is also important to know that this charter of the United Nations has been accepted by the American Congress. It is really an American Law, and therefore these people are working to make sure that the charter be respected. Initials OJP/JF/BJ Script is copyright Reuters Limited. All rights reserved
