- Story Text:Fifteen members of the militant Black Panther movement have been charged with the murder of a negro policeman at their party headquarters in Detroit on Saturday night (24 October).
More than 100 policemen surrounded the Black Panther building in Detroit after the negro patrolman., 26-year-old Glenn Smith, was shot dead.
Police persuaded seven women and two men in the house to surrender and then used tear gas to flush out the remaining four Black Panthers. A total 23 persons were arrested during the incident.
Bail for the fifteen charged with the murder has been set at a total of 225,000 dollars (about GBP 93,000 sterling).
Two other men have ben charge with assaulting a policeman and causing malicious damage to property.
