- Title: 'Chosen by Cher a blessing' - Andy Garcia on getting Mamma Mia role
- Date: 14th July 2018
- Summary: LONDON, ENGLAND, UK (JULY 14, 2018) (REUTERS) (SOUNDBITE) (English) OL PARKER, DIRECTOR, SAYING: "I mean Andy's (Garcia) character was invented specifically so that Cher could sing 'Fernando' to him. And so sometimes you figure it out that you get to a point, what song would work here and you're like that would be cool. I mean Mamma Mia for example, Jeremy's (Irvine) just broken Lily's (James) heart, and so then she sings you know, Mamma Mia and that's sometimes it's the other way round, the song dictates how you get there."

Stars of "Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again" including Pierce Brosnan, Stellan Skarsgard and Andy Garcia were out in force for a news conference in London on Saturday (July 14).
The guys of the film, joined by Abba member Bjorn Ulvaeus and Director Ol Parker, were the second news conference of the day after stars including Cher, Christine Baranski and Lily James spoke to the media before them.
Parker said that Garcia's character in the film was created purely so Cher could sing "Fernando" to him, Garcia added the actress and singer had "picked" him personally for the role.
"Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again" looks back on the younger years of Donna (Meryl Streep) played by Lily James as her daughter Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) finds out she is pregnant.
Colin Firth, Skarsgard and Brosnan reprise their roles as Sophie's three fathers, while Julie Walters and Baranski return as Donna's good friends Tanya and Rosie.
