- Story Text:Central American migrants boarded trucks as they continued their march northward on Monday (November 05) from the state of Puebla, aiming to reach Mexico City later today as they seem undeterred by renewed threats from U.S. President Donald Trump.
They are heading towards Mexico City where they expect to arrive this evening to take up temporary shelter at a sports stadium.
More than 1,000 Central Americans, many fleeing gang violence and financial hardship in their home countries, are already staying at the stadium where the city government set up medical aid and food kitchens.
Ahead of U.S. congressional elections this Tuesday, Trump has warned repeatedly about the advance of the caravan and ordered thousands of troops to the Mexican border, where units strung up razor wire this weekend.
The capital is located nearly 500 miles (805 kilometres) from the closest border crossings in Texas. They left the Honduran city of San Pedro Sula four weeks ago. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
