- Story Text: Thousands of Muslim worshippers crossed West Bank checkpoints into Jerusalem on Friday (May 10) to attend the first Friday prayers of Ramadan in the Old City's Al-Aqsa mosque.
Palestinians from the West Bank cities of Ramallah and Bethlehem arrived at Israeli checkpoints leading to Jerusalem.
There were separate lanes for men and women who all underwent security checks before entering the holy city.
But some Palestinians, like Mahmoud al-Rebhy who lives in Bethlehem, were not allowed to enter Jerusalem and he's angry.
"Netanyahu is saying there are allowing access! Where is his democracy? Where are all the lies of the Israeli nation? They are advertising to the whole world that they are providing us with access, that they opened their doors to the Palestinians," al-Rebhy said.
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and during the month adult Muslims fulfill a religious obligation to abstain from eating, drinking and sexual relations during daylight hours.
Israel captured East Jerusalem in the 1967 Middle East War and has later annexed it in a move not recognised internationally.
