- Story Text: At the top of London's iconic Gherkin building participants took part in a meditation session on Tuesday (May 21).
Far above the hustle and bustle of the city, the intimate session was led by founder of Beeja Meditation, Will Williams as part of World Meditation Day.
"We're in this beautiful space where we can sort of see across London and get a sense of perspective," Williams told Reuters.
After experiencing insomnia Williams turned to meditation and found it beneficial for his well-being later inspiring him to pursue it as a profession.
"Meditation can help Londoners and anyone living in a busy, urban environment because you don't need a quiet, dark space to do it... immediately the alarm system in your brain, the amygdala starts calming down," he explained.
Sat on a colourful meditation cushion, participant Natalie Burn explained how turning to meditation has helped her cope with living in London.
"I found getting the tubes really, really difficult and when I started getting into meditation my anxiety reduced a lot and yeah it's a huge part of why I can like deal with London for sure," Burn told Reuters.
Beeja Meditation teamed up with meditation group Unify to live-stream the event and a second meditation session will take place in Vancouver, Canada later in the day.
