There can be no economic solution as a substitute to our freedom and second how can we have economic development when we cannot control our borders, our import, our export, our free market, our freedom of movement and even we do not control the taxes we pay which Israel keeps cutting from time to time. So there is no economic prosperity, it's a deceit that Mr. Kushner is spreading around and we will not be deceived by it." - Story Text: Palestinians clashed with Israeli forces on Tuesday (June 25) across the West Bank against the first stage of President Donald Trump's Middle East peace plan.
The economic part of the plan was to be launched on Tuesday, at a conference the White House touts as a bid to begin drumming up $50 billion in investment but which Palestinians deride as an "economy first" approach doomed to fail.
Palestinian politician Mustafa Bargouthi, attending a violent protest in the West Bank village of Al-Bireh, said that no economic development is possible in the Palestinian territories as long as Israel controls most aspects of economic activity in Gaza and the West Bank.
In Gaza, Palestinians burnt pictures of Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in continued protests.
The two-day international meeting in Bahrain, led by Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, has been billed as the first part of Washington's long-delayed broader political blueprint to revive the moribund Israeli-Palestinian peace process, which will be unveiled at a later date.
