- Story Text: Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich trained on Tuesday (August 18) ahead of visit to Hoffenheim at the weekend.
The reigning champions started their season last week with a crushing 5-0 win over Hamburg SV, giving a scintillating performance that set an early marker in their hunt for an unprecedented fourth straight title.
Despite having Mario Goetze on the bench amid widespread media speculation about his future at the club, winger Franck Ribery still injured and Bastian Schweinsteiger having left for Manchester United, the Bavarians turned on the style.
German international Thomas Mueller scored twice in four minutes midway through the second half. Mehdi Benatia and Robert Lewandowski netted too while newcomer Douglas Costa, who also set up a goal, grabbed the fifth in the 87th minute.
Brazilian Costa terrorised the Hamburg defence down the left wing with his speed while Chile international Arturo Vidal, who joined from Juventus in the close season, coolly orchestrated the attacks from midfield.
German international Goetze, who scored the winner for Germany in last year's World Cup final, has again started the season as a little used substitute while also refusing to commit to a future at Bayern despite a contract till 2017.
Instead of spearheading Bayern's attacking midfield the 23-year-old has languished on the Bayern bench, unable to find consistency and the player vented his frustration earlier this month saying it had been a difficult two-year period so far. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
