- Story Text: Costa Rica is test driving its first electric bus as the Central American nation looks to move towards 100 percent renewable energy.
The electric bus, which has an autonomy of 250 kilometres (155 miles) will transport students and professors of the University of Costa Rica for free during six months, as part of a pilot plan, which aims to promote the transition in the public service of combustion engines to electric ones.
Authorities said they are working with transportation leaders to smooth out any concerns before making the move.
According to official figures, Costa Rica hopes to be a carbon neutral nation by 2021, with government schemes to get people away from traditional petrol-powered cars and broadening its hydropower.
