(Ecuadorean) President Lenin Moreno spoke about how (Venezuelan President Nicolas) Maduro is complicit in this process orchestrated during the Sao Paulo forum. It's not the first time that Venezuela is financing not only these types of actions, but also campaigns. Let's remember the famous case of the 'briefcase' in Argentina, let's remember the financing through Petrocaribe, via foundations in Ecuador that announced this year of receiving more than $250,000 (U.S.) dollars - a foundation of (former Ecuadorean president Rafael) Correa precisely for proselytizing Venezuelan money." VARIOUS, GUAIDO AT NEWS CONFERENCE (SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) VENEZUELAN OPPOSITION LEADER, JUAN GUAIDO, SAYING: "Under the framework of the complete humanitarian emergency that Venezuela is going through, of the biggest migrant flow that Latin America has seen, of the seven million Venezuelans that today are at risk of death, it's a tragedy, then, that Maduro uses Venezuelan money to simply try to destabilize the region when he is the one responsible at this time for the absolute crisis that Venezuelans are living through. Under that framework (I) respect the Ecuadorean institutions that have openly backed President Lenin (Moreno)." - Story Text: Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido on Tuesday (October 08) joined the president of Ecuador in accusing Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro of financing protests that have rocked the Andean country in recent days.
"It's not the first time that Venezuela is financing not only these types of actions, but also campaigns," Guaido said outside the opposition-led national assembly.
Ecuadoran President Lenin Moreno has accused former Ecuadorean president Rafael Correa, his one-time mentor and boss when he was vice president, of seeking a coup with the help of Maduro.
Maduro, who has presided over an economic implosion and political crisis in Venezuela, has yet to respond to the accusation of involvement in Ecuador.
In Ecuador, thousands of indigenous demonstrators have converged on the highland capital, Quito, and were planning to march near the heavily guarded presidential palace on Tuesday.
Facing the biggest challenge to his two-and-a-half-year rule, President Lenin Moreno has declared a state of emergency and relocated government operations to the coastal city of Guayaquil where there has been less trouble.
Protests erupted last Thursday when the government cut fuel subsidies as part of a package of economic reforms, in keeping with a $4.2 billion International Monetary Fund (IMF) loan.
Indigenous groups and others have been barricading roads with burning tires, rocks and branches, while police have deployed armoured vehicles, water cannons and tear gas in response.
