- Story Text: Hundreds gathered outside the White House on Saturday (October 12) to protest Turkey's incursion into Kurdish-controlled northeast Syria and urge U.S. action against Turkey.
Many of the demonstrators were Kurdish-Americans angry at U.S. President Donald Trump for standing aside last week as Turkey sent troops into Syria to fight the Kurds.
Protester Atta Noori called Trump's decision a "betrayal." Another protester, Lukeman Rost, said the Kurdish-American community would like Trump to rethink his decision.
The Washington DC rally and march came as thousands of Kurds and their local supporters rallied in France and in Greece on Saturday to protest against Turkey's military action in northeast Syria.
The Turkish incursion in northeast Syria has raised international alarm over a mass displacement of civilians and fears that it could trigger a revival of the Islamic State insurgency in Syria.
