- Story Text: Five Dominican students who had been stranded in Wuhan, China finally arrived home in the Dominican Republic on Sunday (March 8), amidst an uptake in confirmed cases of the virus in the Caribbean nation.
According to officials, the students were quarantined in Ukraine before returning to Santo Domingo. Officials reported that the students arriving from China are free of the virus.
Family were on hand at Santo Domingo airport to tearfully greet the students as they arrived.
At a news conference on Sunday, Health Minister Rafael Sanchez confirmed the total number of coronavirus cases in the country has jumped to three.
Speaking to media, Sanchez said all three citizens had arrived into the country from Europe and are currently under medical care.
More than 100,000 people worldwide have contracted coronavirus.
