- Story Text:Former Beatles drummer Ringo Starr ventured out in Beverly Hills on his 80th birthday on Tuesday (July 7) to wish the world 'peace and love', in what has become an annual ritual.
He said "It's always my wish on my birthday - peace and love around the world."
Usually, Starr gathers a crowd of celebrity friends for a party outside the Capitol Records building in Hollywood, but the coronavirus had other plans for him this year.
Asked how he felt about the day, Starr told Reuters "I'm 80 and that's how you feel about it. Who knew? But I'm having a good day. I was only 79 yesterday."
Starr posed for photographs and spoke to the media with youthful energy.
When asked what his secret was, Starr replied "I don't know. God blessed me with these good looks. I don't know. I work out, I eat right, I just do the best I can for the body and the mind now and I don't know. I don't have a secret."
Instead of his annual concert, Starr has gathered his friends together for an online performance called 'Ringo's Big Birthday Show', available on YouTube and AXS later on Tuesday.
Proceeds of the concert will go to, among others, Black Lives Matter. Starr said of the movement, "I totally believe in it and I loved all those kids that went out not only in America, not only in L.A. where we live, in England, in Spain. It was such a great move. I loved it and it's their turn. I'm 80 now. Leave it to those guys."
