All of this comes together quite harmoniously in the film and this is what's interesting."

French designer Christophe Josse was initially doubtful about the idea of a digital haute couture week.
Like his peers, he created a film for this season's online-only format, prompted by coronavirus restrictions on travel and large gatherings, and social distancing measures.
The runway a no-go, Josse turned to Paris as a backdrop, where models Marfa Zoe Manakh and Olivera Zonjic walked along the River Seine, or across the Eiffel Tower in off-white couture, under the evening light.
"Something timeless, for whatever season, whatever month or year, something that is a bit unchanging and evolving, but with a certain longevity," Josse said, describing his fall/winter collection.
Haute Couture Week features one-of-a-kind outfits stitched by hand, presented by a select club of designers.
A member of the haute couture chamber since 2011, Josse often works with neutral tones like beige and crème as the canvas for intricate lace or embroidery work. A sheer silk top with wool piping is paired with a long skirt with lightly sequined grass patterns.
Manakh strolls along a colonnade in a long shirt lace dress with lattice patterns. On the steps of an 18th century building, she dons a hooded lace shirt with a wool vest and skirt.
Finally, Josse said, he was convinced that a film was not a bad alternative to the catwalk show, and he might do it again.
"The lighting work, the choice of materials, and the view on each dress is much more precise, more delicate and poetic, that is not there on the day of the runway show," he said.
Josse's haute couture show had already been derailed last January to massive transport strikes and this time, he is unable to see his VIP clients from all over the world in person.
