But the science tells us that we probably already failed on Paris at 1.5. And what the science says is that the cuts have to happen so quickly, right now. And when you are talking about an emergency, it's like you're being at war with nature. You have to stop that war and reverse it. And the faster we do it, the safer all of us will be." - Story Text: Over a thousand protesters marched, danced and banged drums at an Extinction Rebellion demonstration through the centre of Falmouth and outside the G7 media centre on Saturday (June 12), as the G7 summit took place in the English county of Cornwall.
As leaders of some of the world's richest nations gather in picturesque Cornwall, so have dozens of campaign groups that want to court publicity for their causes and send a message to the Western political elite.
"We are sounding the alarm, we are calling out greenwashing today about the leaders of the G7. They have been drowning us in promises and not delivering. So we're here to say to them it's time to actually take action," said Extinction Rebellion co-founder Gail Bradbrook who as at the march.
Behind police cordons and layers of security, leaders from the United States, Japan, Germany, Britain, France, Italy, and Canada have gathered for a three-day summit that they hope will show the West can still act decisively on major global issues.
The summit is taking place in Carbis Bay near St Ives, but the media centre is around 40 kilometres away, and the protests have been taking place at both locations.
Police have mounted a major security operation for the summit, with thousands of officers drafted in from across Britain. Some of those planning demonstrations have said they intended their protests to be noisy, disruptive and annoying.
