- Story Text: Hollywood star Hugh Jackman is urging his fans to wear sunscreen and get skin tests after undergoing a cancer biopsy.
Jackman gets tested regularly after being treated for basal cell carcinoma, a slow-growing form of skin cancer, in 2013.
The Australian actor, 52, said the latest biopsy on his nose came back "inconclusive" but added that his doctors were not concerned.
"I'm about to start filming on a new movie so they couldn't take too much but they've assured me it's probably not anything but it should be okay," he told Reuters at the London premiere of his new sci-fi thriller "Reminiscence", and called on fans to think about their sun safety.
"The message is: don't be like me, wear sunscreen. And if your parents are English like me and you take them to Australia, particularly wear a lot of sunscreen."
According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, basal cell carcinoma is a type of nonmelanoma skin cancer. It is usually caused by UV exposure and can be highly disfiguring if allowed to grow. But it rarely spreads to other parts of the body and is seldom life-threatening.
