- Story Text: Several arrests were made as some 50 climate activists set up a tent and protested outside Bank of America's Midtown Manhattan headquarters Friday (September 17).
The action was one of several across New York aimed at highlighting the bank world's ties to the climate crisis.
In addition to Bank of America, JP Morgan Chase and Citibank are being targeted for actions, said organizers.
"We're asking for immediate action from these banks that we're also targeting today," Presleigh Hayashiga, the acting coordinator of Extinction Rebellion, said in an interview. "We have to immediately stop fossil fuel investment. And so that's why we're here. We're asking for immediate action from these banks that we're also targeting today,"
World leaders and activists will descend on New York next week as the Climate Week NYC and the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) take place.
