- Story Text: A group of Star Wars fans in Russia's northern province of Yakutia have recreated an X-wing starfighter, which Luke Skywalker famously used to destroy the dreaded Death Star in the 1977 movie Star Wars: A New Hope.
Ayaal Fyodorov, a fan of cosplay, built the model with a team of people during the coronavirus lockdown, when they found themselves with lot of free time on their hands.
Fyodorov became famous earlier this year when he and his friends built a model of the Razor Crest ship from Disney's the Mandalorian series.
But strong winds blew it away last spring while it stood in Urdel park, completely destroying their work.
His spirit unbroken, Fedorov decided to build the X-wing using the same material: squared timber, plywood and PVC panels. But this time he and his team reinforced the contraption to protect it from the wind.
The model now stands where their the Razor Crest ship model once stood, in Urdel park.
The team said the project cost them around 400,000 rubles (5,500 USD), and was funded by a grant.
