- Story Text: Muppets The Great Gonzo and Pepe the Prawn took the center stage normally held by Miss Piggy as they premiered their film "Muppets Haunted Mansion" in Culver City on Thursday (October 7).
The event was a drive-in screening but the glamor soon wore off with the pair when they realized they were actually just standing in a parking lot.
"Muppets Haunted Mansion" follows The Great Gonzo as he attempts to meet a Halloween challenge and spend an entire night in a spooky house.
The pair took stock at the premiere of what the best thing was about being a Muppet. Pepe said ""We get to work with a lot of celebrities already. We get to mingle at the parties, you get to hang out at their houses, driving their cars," while Gonzo said "It's really nice our little group. We have a lot of camaraderie and friendship and a really good healthplan."
The film may be full of scares but for one of the Muppets, there was a real danger on set.
Pepe the Prawn said "I had to stay away from craft services. You know, sometimes they put a bucket of ice out and people get ideas."
The Halloween special is celebrity-packed with cameos from actors Taraji P. Henson, Danny Trejo, John Stamos, Chrissy Metz and Yvette Nicole Brown.
Brown said "What's it like working with the muppets? Life affirming, career trajectory changing, silly, fun, naughty. It's all of that. It's all of that."
Chrissy Metz agreed, saying "It's honestly hard to keep a straight face and you know, you've heard these voices and you've been around these characters - well I have, all my life but I was like 'This is so iconic for me'."
"Muppets Haunted Mansion" is now streaming on Disney+.
