- Story Text: A first Palestinian fatality was reported in the Gaza Strip on Friday (August 8) after an Egyptian mediated ceasefire broke down earlier and a boy was killed and six others were wounded following an Israeli air strike near a mosque in Gaza City, Palestinian medical officials said.
Zuheir Awawda said his 10-year old son Ibrahim had gone to the mosque to pray.
"He went to pray at the mosque, they struck him and blew his head apart," Awawda said as he was helped away by a relative.
Abdel Rahim Abu Bader, a medic said that they found Awawda dead inside the mosque after they had evacuated several other wounded children.
"We went to the site and found injuries, children, they were all children. We took the wounded but then went back to check a second time and found the child inside the mosque, he got killed inside the mosque with a head wound. He is 10 years old," Abu Bader said.
Several other wounded, among them an elderly women were also taken to the hospital.
An Israeli government official said that Israel will not negotiate with the Palestinians about renewing a truce in the Gaza Strip as long as militants continue to launch rockets. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
