- Story Text: A group of German school children have started
collecting teddy bears for children in Central America
affected by hurricane "Mitch".
The toys, which are being collected all over Germany, are
expected to be shipped to Central America in time for
Christmas.
Students from Bonn's Ernst-Moritz-School on Wednesday
(December 9) packed boxes with hundreds of teddy bears for
"Mitch" victims in Honduras, Nicaragua and Guatemala.
The toys, which the children hope will bring a smile to
children in areas affected by the hurricane, will be shipped
to them in time for Christmas.
Elementary school student Jan Euenheim said he had decided
he could part with ten of his stuffed animals, five of them
his "favourites."
Mine Reimnitz said she hoped the animals would bring some
joy to the children in Latin America, adding that everybody
likes receiving presents.
Organisers "Casa Alianza," an aid organisation for
children in Guatemala, are hoping to collect some 100,000
teddy bears from all over the country, whether they be new or
used.
The toys will then be transported to the northern port city
of Hamburg and shipped to Central America.
