- Story Text: Talks to resolve Ivory Coast's post-election standoff remained in deadlock on Tuesday (January 18), with no sign of incumbent Laurent Gbagbo being willing step down and no agreement from his rival to meet him until he does, a spokesman for Kenya's Prime Minister said.
Kenyan Prime Minister and mediator Raila Odinga met with various diplomats and ambassadors representing UN Security Council members, in the hope of making progress in the negotiations.
Odinga met with Gbagbo and rival Alassane Ouattara on Monday (January 17) and remains in the West African country on a trip that aims to end a violent power struggle between them.
Ouattara is widely recognised as president-elect of Ivory Coast, after the country's electoral commission proclaimed him winner of a November 28 presidential poll, results that were certified by the United Nations peacekeeping mission. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
