- Story Text: Brazil's Ronaldinho said on Thursday (March 23) that the favourites to win the World Cup this summer will not become apparent until the tournament starts.
Barcelona's world player of the year was speaking in Barcelona at the launch of a new commercial for Nike, which features footage of Ronaldinho playing as a child edited together with current footage of him.
The theme of the commercial is 'Play Beautiful" an ideal that Ronaldinho believes the current Brazilian side live up to.
"Brazil always try and play beautiful football. We've got a style of play and we never change," he said. "Everyone considers us the favourites (to win the World Cup) as we've got a squad of players with plenty of experience."
One side that Ronaldinho did single out as having an advantage are the hosts Germany, who he feels will be difficult to beat despite their recent lack of form.
"The team that plays at home can be one of the most difficult opponents as they always have an advantage," he said.
The commercial features Ronaldinho playing a Futsal match as a child in Porto Alegre, mixed in with footage of him playing now, showing that despite his position as a star player, his pure joy at playing football still shines through. His amazing skills, balance with the ball and his samba celebration dance are evident even from an early age, and echoed by his older self. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
