- Story Text: A ministerial Arab panel met on Saturday (January 19) to discuss the Arab developmental issues in economic and social fields.
The meeting was held in preparation for the third Arab Economic and Social Development Summit, which will be held in Riyadh on Monday (January 21).
The panel had delegates from Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Lebanon, Egypt and Morocco.
Addressing the meeting, Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Elaraby said Arab Spring reforms were on the top of his agenda.
"The economic and social developments are now ahead of everything, they came after the calls for change and reform, particularly in the Arab societies, where people are protesting against poverty, unemployment, social exclusion, corruption and the pursuit of social justice," he said.
The Arab Economic and Social Development Summit is expected to discuss the Arab League contribution in various economic and social fields at a time when many Arab countries are facing difficult political and economic challenges.
The previous two summits were held in Kuwait and Egypt.
This year's summit will be held on Monday (January 21) and Tuesday (January 22) at King Abdulaziz International Conference Center in Riyadh. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
