- Story Text: X Files star David Duchovny's directorial debut, "House
of D" opened in New York, with stars dazzling on the red
carpet. A coming-of-age film set mostly in New York's
Greenwich Village in the 1970's, the film explores the
experience of dealing with an emotional past and looking
ahead to a more positive future.
Speaking about his experience as a director, Duchovny
said, " I think it went great but that its really not for
me to decide, but for the audience to decide. I feel good
about the movie. I feel like I made the movie I want to
make."
Duchovny added that he is keen to continue directing in
the future as well. Duchovny also stars in "House of D", playing a man
- Thomas Warshaw - trying to re-shape his
present tumultuous life by looking back at his childhood.
On his son's 13th birthday, Warshaw (David Duchovny) begins
venting the details of his truncated youth to his French
lover.
The film is quite a family affair, starring Robin
Williams as well as his daughter Zelda Williams, and also
Duchovny's wife Tea Leoni.
Robin Williams acts as mentally challenged Pappass in
the film. 13 year old Thomas, played by Anton Yelchin,
develops a close relationship with Pappass. Their bond
helps them access their untapped emotions.
Speaking about her father's presence in the film, Zelda
Williams said, " He was there to support me. I mean like he
wasn't there to be my guru, he was there to be my dad, he
was in the movie himself, so it was comforting."
Even as Zelda spoke fondly about her father, the latter
returned the compliments. Robin Williams praised his
daughter and said, " I am very proud of her acting. Its
really quite wonderful, and she was also really nice to
people, which is the second part. That's a double bill - of
being you know kind as well good - is a great thing."
The mutual praise amidst the cast members continued.
Leoni who plays Katherine Warshaw, a nurse struggling to
maintain her relationship with her precocious son after
losing her husband, was all praise for her husband David
Duchovny's directorial control.
"It felt very safe, probably the safest set that I've
ever walked on so onward, my husband's the captain you
know," Leoni said about her experience on the sets of the
film.
One of the youngest actors in the film, Anton Yelchin,
was overwhelmed by the star-company he had.
" I am really shocked and its really a big honour. I
mean Robert De Niro by far is my favourite actor and really
really proud, just like - wow," Yelchin said.
"House of D" will be released in the United States in
mid April.
