That was the hardest part for me to write because I'd gone through so many emotions through that and I felt, as I said in the book, that it was the only thing, I've had a number of things happen in my career and life, 95 percent of them have been good and the other 5 percent not so good. That was the only part that I felt I had no control of and didn't know what to do. That was definitely the hardest chapter to write." 10. COVER OF BOOK 11. SOUNDBITE (English) DAVID BECKHAM SAYING: "I think that I've got so many fans across the world of all different age groups, from young children, boys and girls, up to nans and granddads and I think people just like reading a nice story and it is a nice story. - Story Text: David Beckham was speaking in Madrid on Friday (September 12) at the
launch of his new book 'My Side'.
Beckham said that he while he didn't understand why people were so
interested in him, he was grateful.
"It's very flattering that so many people are interested in me and my
life," said the Real Madrid midfielder.
"Of course there are amusing parts of it but more than anything it's
flattering because the amount of letters and the amount of press that I do get,
95 percent of it is positive and I thank people for that."
The England captain admitted that the hardest part of writing the book was
the chapter concerning his parents divorce.
"That was the hardest part for me to write because I'd gone through so many
emotions through that and I felt, as I said in the book, that it was the only
thing, I've had a number of things happen in my career and life, 95 percent of
them have been good and the other 5 percent not so good. That was the only part
that I felt I had no control of and didn't know what to do," he said.
Real Madrid open their Champions League campaign against Olympique
Marseille on Tuesday, a match Beckham is relishing.
"This is obviously the first game Tuesday and I'm looking forward to it.
It's a new project, a new team and a new start in the Champions League so it's
an exciting time for me and the team at the moment."
Beckham also spoke of his gratitude to Manchester United manager Alex
Ferguson for helping develop as a player. He went on to admit that although
although his move to Real Madrid had caused a rift in their relationship they
had both moved on.
