- Story Text: Fashion Week kicked off in New York City on Thursday (February 11), with BCBGMAXAZRIA and Richard Chai among the first few designers to unveil their looks for Fall/Winter 2010.
Backstage at the BCBGMAXAZRIA show, the primping and preening was in overdrive as models prepared to hit the runway.
For Fall/Winter 2010, BCBGMAXAZRIA showcased a collection of neutral tones, infused with pops of blue and yellow to create geometric patterns. Often belted at the waist, the billowy garments were layered over long-sleeved t-shirts and teamed with cream tights and boots.
Designer Max Azria said he designed the collection with the modern woman in mind.
"She's a very, very cool woman, where you are going to see this look of long-sleeve t-shirts with different colour and contrasting with a very sophisticated top or dress with a lot of different layers and the silouhette is very nice," Azria said.
It's the last time Fashion Week is being held at Bryant Park, which has been the official home of New York Fashion Week for 17 years. Next season the event is being moved to Lincoln Center's Damrosch Park.
Azria said although the move marked the end of an era, he wasn't sad.
"I am not sad because fashion is moving every six months. He were are here since 15 years so we are moving in a new place, a place will be better, I stay optimistic. At the end of the day your show is inside the tents and it will be the same," Azria said.
News of the death of 40-year-old British designer Alexander McQueen broke as the BCBGMAXAZRIA show got underway. Designer Richard Chai learned of McQueen's death as he was preparing to unveil his collection for Fall/Winter 2010.
The death of the iconic fashion designer is certain to cast a shadow over the week's shows. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
