- Story Text: The stars of the new movie "Friends With Benefits" hit the red carpet in Russia's capital Tuesday (July 26) to celebrate the film's premiere.
Mila Kunis, who was born in the former Soviet Union in Ukraine charmed fans and journalists lined up near Moscow's "October" theatre by speaking and answering questions in fluent Russian.
Kunis said she was enjoying her visit to Russia.
"Yeah, I haven't been back since '91, and I've never been to Russia. I was born in Chirnivtsy, Ukraine and the only time I was ever in Moscow was to get out of the USSR, but it's been great so far. I mean, you know, I was lucky enough to spend two days and I got to sightsee a little bit. It's been great," Kunis said.
"Friends With Benefits" stars Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis as two characters who have recently gone through bad break-ups. Using Hollywood romantic comedies as their guide, the pair decides to add the simple act of sex into their friendship thinking that there would be no way it could complicate their relationship. However, throughout the course of the movie emotions began to blur their 'sex' rules.
Timberlake said the film was a comedy about his generation.
"I simply have fun, you know. We wanted to make a movie about our generation and we wanted to make it funny and I think our generation is self-deprecating, but also still wants all the things we think we can't have. And that's what we tried - that's the movie we tried to make," Timberlake told Reuters.
"Friends With Benefits", translates into Russian as "Sex in Friendship". Director Will Gluck said that he expected the reactions to his film to be different in Russia to the U.S. Russians, he said, were more open about sex than Americans.
"I think, I think Americans are very nervous about sex. They get very nervous about watching sex and they don't like to talk about sex. I think when you come to Europe, especially Russia people are more opening. Even the poster with the finger (GESTURES WITH HANDS). In America we're not allowed to put that on the poster, but in Russia it's very clear what's going to happen in the movie," Gluck told Reuters.
Cinema-going is booming in Russia two decades after the collapse of the Soviet Union put a night out at the movies out of reach for many. Cinemas made a record 1 billion U.S. Dollars (USD) in sales last year on the back of 15.2 percent audience growth.
