- Story Text: Film stars Harrison Ford and Rachel McAdams were in Berlin, Germany on Sunday (January 9) to promote their latest film "Morning Glory".
Directed by Roger Michell, (Notting Hill) the romantic comedy shows the funny and somewhat complex world of morning television.
The film tells the story of legendary TV anchor Mike Pomeroy (Ford) who is hired by enthusiastic young TV producer Becky Fuller (McAdams) to bring some life back into national news show "Daybreak". Unfortunately Pomeroy is a difficult colleague, refusing to cover regular morning television stories such as celebrity gossip, weather and fashion. On top of this, he doesn't get along well with co-host Colleen Peck (Diane Keaton), who is a former beauty queen and longtime show host.
While the pair continuously clash on air, off air Becky develops a relationship with fellow producer Adam Bennett (Patrick Wilson). As the story continues, Becky is pressured to do everything to save her job, relationship and even the show from collapsing.
Researching the film seemed to be quite an eye opener, not just for members of the cast, but also the crew, as explained by director Roger Michell.
"I started going to all of these morning shows in New York and I was thrilled by how off camera everything was chaos, everything was crammed into tiny spaces, the corridors were filmed with props and boxes of costume and all silly things, all of which we put into our film, and yet every day these people turn up desperate to win the ratings war," he told journalists in Berlin.
Upcoming star McAdams, who is originally from Canada, said that having peeked a glimpse into the life of a breakfast television producer, she knows it is a job which she could never do herself.
"No, no I couldn't do it. I really admire and respect the people who can because it's, you know news is happening all the time, it's a revolving door of stories and you have to be on top of it and in morning television its so competitive so you have to be the first one to get the best interview and its like that every single day. You know you work so hard on one story and it's over in two seconds so I don't think I could handle that," she told Reuters TV.
68-year-old Ford, best known for his roles as Hans Solo in Star Wars and Indiana Jones, during an acting career that spans more than 40 years, says he is not preparing to give up his job any time soon.
"I like what I do and I'm happy to continue to do it as long as I can," he said.
