It's so much fun working with her, she's just funny and talented and very quick wit. Particularly in a picture like this that has the romance and the comedy you really have to have someone who is there giving it as much as you're giving it. - Story Text: Hollywood mega-star Tom Cruise and co-star Cameron Diaz walked the red carpet surrounded by hordes of screaming fans in London's Leicester Square on Thursday (July 22), for the premiere of their latest action-comedy "Knight and Day."
Both of the A-listers have been on a publicity blitz throughout South America and Europe for the film, which has had a disappointing opening and performance at the U.S. box office so far.
Cruise especially lived up to his reputation for taking extra time to meet the fans in London, spending well over an hour signing autographs and posing for photographs with crowds on the red carpet.
The romantic-action-comedy sees Cruise as a government super-agent framed for stealing a top secret invention and hunted by his own government. After literally bumping into him at an airport, Diaz's character soon finds herself sucked into his world of espionage.
Diaz also finds herself a target, with Cruise playing the only man who can protect her, as the two go on the run from the FBI and ruthless arms dealers in a chase that takes them around the globe.
"Knight and Day" reunites Cruise and Diaz for the first time since their performance together in the 2001 drama "Vanilla Sky".
Cruise said that while the roles were very different this time around, the chemistry was still there.
"It's very different from 'Vanilla Sky.' It's so much fun working with her, she's just funny and talented and very quick wit. Particularly in a picture like this that has the romance and the comedy you really have to have someone who is there giving it as much as you're giving it. Just everyday was really fun working with her," he told Reuters Television on the red carpet.
The star admitted that getting the right balance of comedy, action and romance was a challenge.
"It was all a little tricky. You know some of the action we had was pretty tricky and it's mostly live on camera. But the comedy, having that character in there was really a lot of fun. A lot of fun to play," he said Diaz said the hard work was also pure pleasure.
"It was great. It was so much fun. When you come to work everyday knowing that you get to blow shit up, sorry, get to blow things up and you get to just have a laugh and get to do it with one of the greatest actors that we have, you pinch yourself everyday because it's such a great gig," she said.
