- Title: USA: Jay Chou, Seth Rogen, and the stars of "The Green Hornet" walk the red carpet in Hollywood
- Date: 14th January 2011
- Summary: (SOUNDBITE) (English) SETH ROGEN, ACTOR/WRITER, SAYING: "I think it's the only reason it works at all. I'm somewhat not so competent on my own. To us that was kind of the whole joke. And kind of the whole notion of heroes and sidekicks all together is that it's insulting to call someone your sidekick when you couldn't function without them. To us, that was sort of the whole joke behind the movie." (SOUNDBITE) (English) JAY CHOU, ACTOR/MUSICIAN, SAYING: "No matter who plays new Kato it would be nervous because Bruce Lee is a legend. And I tried it my way. My way is music. So I put some music in my Kato." (SOUNDBITE) (English) CAMERON DIAZ, ACTRESS, SAYING: "It was wild. Mostly because we couldn't understand each other cause everyone speaks a different language. Canadian, American, Taiwanese, and you know French. And even when Michel is speaking English no one can understand him." (SOUNDBITE) (English) JAY CHOU, ACTOR/MUSICIAN, SAYING: "It's slow here. So everyday like vacation. I can relax. In China. In Asia movIe very fast. Everyday." FANS WITH SIGNS FOR JAY CHOU (SOUNDBITE) (English) SETH ROGEN, ACTOR/WRITER, SAYING: "It's amazing. It's really gratifying to have someone with the intellect to apply it to something that you have written. And it's really cool to see how he would take a scene that was very simple at times and turn it into this amazing visual idea. And I love it. It's great. (SOUNDBITE) (English) JAY CHOU, ACTOR/MUSICIAN, SAYING: "A lot of fan maybe hear my music. Music is very important in my life. More than acting." (SOUNDBITE) (English) MICHEL GONDRY, DIRECTOR, SAYING: "To have a superhero which is actually a super anti-hero is very appealing to me. And on the other hand the action is sort of very detailed. Very strong. So it's a combination of a very human character propelled into a world of explosion." (SOUNDBITE) (Mandarin) JAY CHOU, ACTOR/MUSICIAN, SAYING: "No matter who plays new Kato it would be nervous because Bruce Lee is a legend. And I tried it my way. My way is music. So I put some music in my Kato." - Story Text: Seth Rogen, Jay Chou, and Cameron Diaz were in Hollywood for the premiere of their new film, "The Green Hornet".
Seth Rogen stars as Britt Reid the son of LA's most prominent media magnet who is directionless and spends his life as a party boy. When Reid's father is mysteriously killed Britt decides to do something meaningful with his life using his new vast resources and the help of one of his father's inventive employees, Kato, played by Jay Chou.
The Green Hornet also plays on the fact that the sidekick is really the hero while the hero gets into mishaps. It is this dichotomy that attracted Seth Rogen to "The Green Hornet".
"I think it's the only reason it works at all. I'm somewhat not so competent on my own. To us that was kind of the whole joke. And kind of the whole notion of heroes and sidekicks all together is that it's insulting to call someone your sidekick when you couldn't function without them. To us, that was sort of the whole joke behind the movie," Rogen told Reuters.
"The Green Hornet" is Jay Chou's first American film and he talked about the difference of making a Hollywood film versus a movie in Asia.
"It's slow here. So everyday like vacation. I can relax," Chou said. "In China, in Asia, move very fast. Everyday."
The role of Kato made Bruce Lee a star in the United States and while filling those shoes can be daunting Chou said he had to be himself in the role.
"No matter who plays new Kato it would be nervous because Bruce Lee is a legend. And I tried it my way. My way is music. So I put some music in my Kato," Chou said.
The film is also French director Michel Gondry's first big Hollywood blockbuster.
"To have a superhero which is actually a super anti-hero is very appealing to me. And on the other hand the action is sort of very detailed. Very strong. So it's a combination of a very human character propelled into a world of explosion," said Gondry.
Cameron Diaz, who plays Lenore Case, joked about what it was like on the set with a group from such diverse backgrounds.
"It was wild. Mostly because we couldn't understand each other cause everyone speaks a different language. Canadian, American, Taiwanese, and you know French," said Diaz. "And even when Michel is speaking English no one can understand him."
