- Story Text: Andy Garcia and Eva Longoria arrived on the red carpet Thursday night (May 31) for the Los Angeles premiere of the epic action film, "For Greater Glory."
The movie that aims to shed light on the Latin American country's war against Catholicism, stars Oscar-nominated actor Garcia as one of the leaders of an insurgency of Catholic rebels who took up arms against government forces in Mexico attempting to impose strict secularism on the population in the 1920s.
The Cuban-American actor was inspired by the true story that at times has been forgotten.
"It is sincerely a great honor to be a part of the film, to be able to portray such an heroic character in the film," said Garcia.
Featuring an international cast of actors that includes Hollywood starlet Eva Longoria and Golden Globe winner Peter O'Toole, the epic movie is Mexico's most expensive production with a reported budget of about 20 million dollars (USD), considerably higher than other home-grown feature films.
"I think the medium of film is the best way to tell the story. People will go out and watch a film rather than read a history book. Anytime I am able to be a part of that process I am really proud of it. Especially, being Mexican-American I didn't even know this part of history that happened in Mexico."
Longoria added shooting the film on location in Mexico helped add to the film's feel.
"Oh, we had a lot of fun. We shot in Mexico, all over Mexico," said Longoria. "It was joy to work with the director, to play Andy's wife. But, we are telling a very important story and the end result is something we are so proud of."
The epic historical drama, which had an April 20 release in Mexico, will be hitting theaters in the United States on June 01. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
