But you'll of course get the best seat in the house, so much to the point where you could probably smell me, although I do believe in good hygiene, so it's a good thing. And hopefully they'll be inspired if they have an obstacle but they have a dream as well, that they can get through that obstacle and go for it, and look for the dream." - Story Text: "Katy Perry: Part of Me," a 3-D concert documentary billed as an on-and-off stage close up look at Katy Perry and her 2011 California Dreams Tour, premiered in Los Angeles on Tuesday (June 26). The singer performed a set of her hit songs including new single "Part of Me," to thousands of screaming fans on Hollywood Boulevard prior to the film's screening.
"I'm wearing a red, velvet dress," Perry said, describing the hectic scene in Hollywood. "It looks like I've gathered all the red, velvet ropes in Hollywood and stuffed them on me. Finally, I've made it! We're on a pink carpet. There's lots of candy styled things on the carpet. I'm about to go on stage and perform for 5,000 people. It's very intense and overwhelming. We're opening at Grauman's Chinese Theatre today in our Lolita shaped 3-D glasses and it's going to be very fun."
The movie is named after song "Part of Me," which was released in February and debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Hot 100. Perry, 27, said she was most excited for viewers to "look for the dream."
"Hopefully they'll be inspired if they have an obstacle but they have a dream as well, that they can get through that obstacle and go for it, and look for the dream."
Distributor Paramount Pictures and Perry, whose last album "Teenage Dream," produced such hits as "Firework," "California Gurls" and "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)," teamed up to promote the first big screen look at Perry's life and 124 performances on her tour. Internet sensation Rebecca Black said Perry was a pleasure to work with when she tapped Black to be in her music video, "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)," as homage to Black's own viral video, "Friday."
"She is so outgoing and so much fun and she's so nice," 15-year-old Black said. "She's just kind and she really cares about you. It was really nice to see that someone so huge in the industry still be very grounded."
Paramount co-produced and distributed pop singer Justin Bieber's concert film, "Justin Bieber: Never Say Never," which grossed nearly $100 million worldwide on a budget of $13 million. Bieber's protégé, Carly Rae Jepsen of the upbeat pop song "Call Me Maybe," said that Perry "seemed like a real doll."
A trailer for Perry's movie details her religious upbringing, her struggles and pressures becoming a pop star, her marriage breakup with actor Russell Brand, as well as tour footage, including her telling the audience, "Thank you so much for believing in my weirdness."
The film opens in U.S. theaters on July 5. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
