- Story Text: A security officer in Lebanon's Iranian-backed
Hizbollah guerrilla group was killed on Monday when a bomb
went off in his car near the port city of Sidon.
Ali Deeb, known as Abu Hassan Salameh, was killed when
his BMW car was blown up in Hilalieh area east of Sidon.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.
Hizbollah said Deeb was one of its military officers and
accused Israel of being behind the attack.
Sheikh Nabil Kawouk, Hizbollah official in south Lebanon,
warned there would be retaliation against Israel.
In Marjayoun, a pro-Israeli South Lebanon Army (SLA)
security source said an SLA militiaman had been wounded when a
militia position on the edge of the central sector of
Israel's south Lebanon occupation zone came under fire.
Hizbollah (Party of God) guerrillas are waging a war of
attrition to oust Israeli troops and their local SLA militia
allies from a 15-km (nine-mile) deep occupation zone in south
Lebanon.
Israel has occupied parts of Lebanon since 1978 and set up
a "security zone" in 1985 saying it was necessary to prevent
potential cross-border attacks.
