- Story Text: Lebanese Premier-designate Rashid Karami told newsmen in Beirut on Saturday (7 June) that he hoped to start forming a new Government next week.
The move will come after almost two weeks of negotiations by Mr. Karami in an attempt to reconcile left-wing and right-wing groups within the Lebanese Parliament.
Mr. Karami--already Lebanon's Premier seven times in the last twenty years--described his mission now as "confined to overcoming obstacles and difficulties".
He went on to express hopes that the formation of the new Government would signal an end to the violence that has troubled the country over the past few weeks. Much of the street fighting in Beirut has resulted from direct clashes between right-wing Falangists and left-wing supporters of Palestinian commando groups in Lebanon.
