- Story Text: The Prime Minister designate of the Lebanon, Mr. Saeb Salam, began talks with political leaders in Beirut on Friday (4 October). Their discussion were centred on the task of forming a new cabinet.
Mr. Salam is known as a tough and determined Moslem politician and has already served as Premier, form October 1970 to April 1973. He is expected to continue his consultations over the weekend and to name the new Cabinet on Monday (7 October).
The previous Lebanese Government, headed by Mr. Takieddin Al-Solh, resigned last week after political leaders and the press attacked it for failing to curb inflation and uphold law and order throughout the country.
These will be the two main problems facing Mr. Salam, who is known as a politician who has long advocated greater democracy in the Arab world.
