- Story Text: A Moscow designer believes she can sew away your
problems and has begun offering therapeutic clothing to help
people through their troubles.
Patrons at a small Moscow clothes studio are finding a
new line of clothing, fashion with a heavy emphasis on
therapy.
Designer Nadezhda Bugakova offers her patrons functional
designs in tones from fire-engine red to seaweed green. She
has dresses, coats, and sarafans, but all of them are designed
to channel energy and help the wearer in whatever ails them.
Bugakova prefers to meet with each client and design an
article depending on their personal needs - loose,
bell-shaped cuts with ample room for people, who want to
spread their energy, and gathered, tighter cuts for people,
who need to retain their energy, concentrate on themselves.
Bugakova dishes out her therapeutic clothes with Chinese
tea ceremonies and flute music, all part of what she sees as
an overall therapeutic approach that is quite foreign to her
urban Moscow surroundings.
But she has a growing base of clients who swear by her
system.
Patrons claim that Bugakov's clothes have helped them cure
colds and dash depression.
Bugakov recalls how one of her designs helped a woman to
give birth.
"The woman couldn't become pregnant for many years. While
I can't point to a direct connection between my clothes and
her pregnancy, but she didn't have any medical treatment and
she managed to give birth to a daughter.
