  • Story Text: Designer Sergio Altieri has unveiled a flowing and
    feminine 1999 spring- summer ready-to-wear collection for the
    Pierre Cardin fashion house.

    Altieri's spring and summer styles featured a
    flowing and casual line for the day with grey or white wide
    trouser suits and over-the-knee simple dresses and more
    constructed clothes for evening.

    Fashions for day wear were largely in wool, linen, silk
    and metallic stitching.

    For the evening, black and white dresses in mousseline,
    chiffon and pastel-coloured crepe were topped with geometric
    collars.

    Like stock markets around the world, hemlines are
    plunging.

    The knee will be taboo next summer, according to the
    ready-to-wear collections in Paris, where skirt and dress
    lengths are falling to somewhere around mid-calf.

    Folklore, minimalism and a blousy, fluid silhouette are
    the other main trends coming on strong, replacing the skinny,
    constrained look and beanpole trousers or corseted waists of
    recent seasons.
