- Story Text: British designer Owen Gaster has been given a glowing reception at the London Fashion Week on Monday (February 24).
Young designer Owen Gaster's Autumn/Winter 1997-1998 "Chopper" once again lived up to expectations at the Monday (February 24) showing at London Fashion Week.
The innovative designer produced a collection combining traditional tailoring and futuristic fabrics and colours.
Labelled "Chopper", the collection paid homage to the art of cutting, presenting a fusion of tradition and invention in couture techniques and in style.
Fishnet wools and velours contrasted with techno PVC fabrics.
Grey and black figure hugging suits and dresses covered stunning bright pink linings.
Combinations of bright stripes, dotted fabrics and pinstripes exposed a powerful clash of influences.
Speaking after the show, Gaster explained this latest collection was a continuation from the successes last year.
"We were just trying to experiment to make it easier to do the collection. It started last year with the robots and we carried on from there. We tried to do the same thing again just using the word 'Chopper' and that was it".
Gaster graduated from Epsom College of Art in 1992 and defines his fashion ethos as "thoroughly modern tailoring with a twist".
Alongside Alexander McQueen and Hussein Chalayan, Gaster's original styling has become a London designer trademark.
