- Story Text: The men's seeds at the Wimbledon Tennis Championships had a good day on Wednesday (23 June), with all of them getting through the second round. For Jimmy Connors of the United States it was his third match is as many days as he came on to the centre court to meet the Egyptian, Ismail El Shafei.
El Shafei's serving during the match was not strong and Connors was quick to come in for the return volley. The American was also more powerful in his service and broke his opponent to take the first set 6-4.
El Shafei didn't find the depth for his service and narrowly held the second set when a passing shot by Connors fell just over the baseline. However, it was a short reprieve and Connors took a two set lead. The American has lost only three times this year. At Wimbledon he has yet to concede a set and has dropped on 21 games so far. Last year he was beaten in the final by fellow American, Arthur Ashe, but is confident of taking this year's title. And he was playing in champion style as he beat El Shafei 6-4, 6-0, 6-3.
