- Story Text: French cyclist Jeannie Longo shattered the women's world one-hour cycling record on Saturday, covering a distance of 48.159 km.
She easily beat the previous record of 47.411 km set by Briton Yvonne McGregor in Manchester in England on June 17, 1995.
Longo covered more than 144 laps in one hour to break the record. She was on her 145th lap when the hour bell rang.
Longo said the mental exercise was harder than the physical.
She said she would be trying to achieve a record in Switzerland and France soon.
