- Story Text: The annual Hamburg Marathon will go ahead as planned and there was never a question of cancelling the event, organisers said on Friday (April 19), days after an attack on the Boston race killed three people and injured almost 200 others.
15,200 participants are expected to participate in Sunday's 28th run in this northern German port city.
"I am not scared," said Lisa Hehner, a young participant hoping to run in Sunday's race.
"I just don't understand how someone could abuse such a sports event which brings people together and is such a positive thing," Hehner said.
The city's state sports and interior minister Michael Neumann told reporters " At no time was there a question of cancelling the event. Of course this decision depended and depends on the information we are receiving from our American partners but the cooperation with the U.S. authorities is excellent."
On Friday one man was shot and another was still at large in the Boston area of the two suspects named by police in connnection with the Boston Marathon bombings. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
