Voters at an Upper East Side voting site in New York
were in for a surprise this morning (November 2, 2004) when
hip-hop mogul Sean "P. Diddy" Combs dropped by to cast his
vote for the next President.
Combs has been the force behind Citizen Change, a
nationwide campaign to get young voters out to the polls.
"Vote or Die" has been the simple message of the campaign.
They have used networks like MTV and BET to reach the more
than 42 million young Americans who are eligible to vote.
They claims that in 2000, only half of those voters came
out to the polls.
But Combs says the candidates are in for a surprise this
election.
"I think when you see the looks on their faces, they
both look a little bit nervous and that's because there's a
wildcard out there. There are over 40 million youth and
minority voters that are bumrushing those polls right now.
Never before have you seen so many people of colour
black, Latinos, Asians, at the polls and also youth
voters. It's changed the face of politics."
New York is a largely Democratic city and
Senator Kerry is expected to easily win the city's vote.
