- Story Text: Chilean President Sebastian Pinera hosted a dinner on Wednesday (June 13) to bid farewell to Chile's Olympic hopefuls before their departure for the London Games.
Chile will be sending 36 athletes to compete in London and Chilean swimmer Kristel Kobrich said they were all determined to make their country proud.
"We are happy, it's a big delegation and it is my third olympics so I'm happy to take part. We are going to do our best and we are going to carry the name of Chile as high as we can," she said.
Pinera, who hosted the dinner at the presidential palace, said all of Chile would be cheering the athletes on as they faced the challenges ahead.
"I say as the president of all Chileans that we are proud of you and we are hopeful in what you are about to undertake. We know that you are going to deliver until the last drop and give your best," he said.
The 36 athletes will represent Chile in a broad range of sports from athletics, archery and gymnastics to judo, wrestling and sailing.
Chile has won a total of thirteen medals including two gold medals in the men's tennis doubles and singles events at the 2004 Athens Olympics. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
