- Story Text: It took 82 years but Switzerland finally got revenge on Saturday (February 18), beating Olympic ice hockey defending champions Canada 2-0 win and avenging the worst beating in Winter Games history -- a massive 33-0 loss.
Switzerland's Paul DiPietro had a pair of goals and net minder Martin Gerber was magical, making 49 saves.
The Swiss victory over Canada, their first-ever in Olympic competition, set off huge celebrations at the packed Torino Esposizioni and set them on the way to heading the Group A standings in the Olympic tournament.
Canadian fans said their team would bounce back.
Swiss net minder Gerber told Reuters Television: "It is a great feeling, we have worked very hard for these last two wins, everything worked out perfect and it is just a great feeling right now and now we have to focus on tomorrow. We need some more points to go to a quarter final we have to focus on it and do everything to get there." - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
