It was a tough race, it was not so easy because I was the favourite and there was a lot of pressure, and I think that was the reason why I couldn't go a little bit with less pressure on the start and skied as I should have on a bumpy piste. - Story Text: Austrian Michael Walchhofer said on Sunday (February 12) that he would have probably skied better had he not been under such great pressure as one of the favourites for gold in the men's downhill at the Winter Olympics.
Despite not getting the gold, Walchhofer said that he was delighted with his silver medal.
"It was a tough race, it was not so easy because I was the favourite and there was a lot of pressure, and I think that was the reason why I couldn't go a little bit with less pressure on the start and skied as I should have on a bumpy piste," he said.
"But, for me this is a great day, good, that will do, this silver medal," added Walchhofer, kissing his medal.
The race was won by Frenchman Antoine Deneriaz, who was the 30th to start, Bruno Kernen of Switzerland taking the bronze. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
