- Story Text: Tourists in Rome seek respite from heat as the city experiences its hottest weekend this summer.
At Rome's famous Trevi Fountain, there were few residents in sight on Saturday (July 17), as temperatures were expected to reach 40 degrees Celsius in many parts of Italy.
Many tourists were seen braving the sun during Rome's hottest weekend this summer.
"It's very hot. It's very cold and rainy where we come from. So, it's hot," said Jason Ford, a tourist from Wales.
But he was not complaining.
"It's brilliant. It's lovely. It's fabulous weather. I very much enjoy it. I'm just not used to it, hence the sweat," he said, wiping sweat from the forehead.
Not everyone, however, was enjoying the weather.
"We have no choice, we have to visit Rome anyway. I'd say it's just because we don't have the choice. We were planning to visit today, so we could go shopping as well," said David LaGuest from Belgium.
Temperatures are expected to go down all across Italy from Sunday night. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
