- Story Text: Hundreds of passengers remained stranded at Germany's largest airport on Monday (December 20) after some 300 flights were cancelled in the morning due to severe winter weather.
An airports spokesman said around 500 passengers had spent the night in the airport terminal, sleeping on camp beds which had been provided by the airport authorities.
He added that the situation was not as bad as it had been over the weekend.
"The situation has eased now but we still have 300 cancellations today. This is also a precautionary measure by the airlines as they have thinned down their flight plan in order to react to the situation of limited air traffic across Europe at the moment," Thomas Uber from Fraport, the company which runs the airport, told Reuters TV.
Thousands of passengers had been left stranded in Frankfurt on Sunday (December 19) after more than 500 flights were cancelled.
More snow and rain has been forecast for the coming days. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
