- Story Text: The Aucayacu River burst its banks in the early hours of Thursday (May 24), damaging over 100 houses and several hectares of bananas and cocoa crops.
Local officials said the Aucayacu River burst its bank at approximately five in the morning, surprising residents in several nearby towns.
Throughout the day, residents living along the river struggled to rescue their belongings.
Civil Defence officials helped residents evacuate and evaluated damage in the area.
Peruvian Civil Defence is maintaining an alert over the area until the rains stop and the high water levels of the Aucayacu River begin to decrease.
The Leoncio Prado Province is one of eleven provinces of the Huanuco Region in Peru, 479 Kilometres from capital Lima, an area of 300.13 square kilometres and an elevation of 3,278 m above sea level. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
